Stage 2 – Jimera town to El Colmenar- 26kms – 805m asc / 1062m desc – longest day
We return to Jimera from Benadalid first thing to rejoin the route. The morning starts on a high level,
undulating path with two small river crossings. We leave the trail above Cañada Del Tesoro to go to
this town for lunch . After lunch, we rejoin the trail and a one hour climb eventually leads to the
entrance to the Cañon of the vultures. A stunning view preceeds the arrival at a big ruined cortijo
and then a steep descent into the canyon to cross ¨ the German bridge¨ with cabled stairs and
tunnel. A steep ascent gives us a great view of the canyon all the way down. Another 2kms along a
scenic trail brings us to a steel rope bridge over a barranco ( dry riverbed) and then the last section
of 3kms before reaching the days end at El Colmenar.
We stay overnight at Hotel Las Buitreras. This hotel has a nice swimming pool, but its not heated so
beware. A Buffet breakfast is served in the hotel restaurant in the morning.

headland before dropping down into the town of Gaucin, where we have some good options for
lunch. After lunch, we leave the bottom of the village and follow the road for maybe 2kms before
taking a pleasant rolling trail of woodland paths until we see Bennaraba across a deep gorge. A steep
descent,a river crossing and then a steep ascent to the village above.
We will stay tonight in the Hotel Banu Rabbah. This hotel has some lovely mountain views and a big
swimming pool ( not heated either Im afraid). You don’t need to pack in the morning, as we will also
stay in this hotel the next night 7 th May. Breakfast is included in the restaurant the next morning.
Sunday 5th May
Stage 4- Benarraba to Benalauria 12.3kms 884m asc / 732m desc

brings us up to the next village of Benadalid, which has a small but impressive castle. Then onwards
on a fairly level path to Atajate, which has 2 good ventas for lunch. We then descend not too steeply
a good 400ms to a riverbed before climbing back up via winding switchback dirt road to Alpandiere.
No accommodation is currently available in Alpandiere, so we will transfer you back to the Hotel
Almeji in Benadalid. Breakfast is included next morning in the restaurant.
Tuesday 7th May
Stage 6 – Alpandiere to Ronda. 19kms 800m asc / 1043m descent
A short bus ride brings us back to rejoin the trail in Alpandiere. We leave Alpandiere on the same
track we came in on for approx 1km before branching right. We take a nice undulating track for a
couple of kms before descending into a deep gorge with stunning steep sides. We walk up the gorge
for a good hour before reaching a large water trough and tank and joining the main road. We follow
the side of the road before we reach the highest point of the walk at 1000m at Puerta Encinas
Borrachas. Its almost all downhill now. You can soon see Ronda. A good 8kms in the distance. We
cross a large field area before making our way down to a man made reservoir with a rather unusual
feature in the water. Continuing down this track, which follows the course of a dry riverbed, The trail
eventually leads into the Tajo de Albanico, a quite stunning canyon with unusual rock formations.
This continues for 2-3 kms before exiting at a tarmac road. We follow this up to join the road and the
final section into one of Ronda large plazas, where the walk ends with a welcome cold drink in one of
