Guided Hill Walking holiday in Capileira in the Alpujarras, Andalucia.

Sierra Nevada, of which the Alpujarras form the Southern flank, is in the province of Granada approximately 2.5 hours from Málaga airport.

This beautiful region was home to the last of the Christian Moors whose culture and architecture remain today.It is the setting for some of the best walking and hiking in Andalucia. The village of Capileira is situated at 1,500 metres above sea level and affords magnificent views into the far reaching mountains.  

Guests will stay in the Finca Los Llanos Hotel where there is a lovely pool and bar to enjoy after a great walk.

Capileira, La Alpujarras.

Day 1. Arrival day at Málaga airport and transfer to Hotel. Transfer time approx 2.5 hours.

Free afternoon to explore.

Dinner.

Day 2. Seven Villages. 15 km. 600 m ascend and 600 metres descend.

This walk gives us a great introduction to La Taha de Pites. La Taha is situated at an altitude of between 900 and 1400 metres.The seven small villages have been declared an area of Special Cultural Interest because of the exceptional conservation of the architecture. We follow Medieval trails through open countryside.

Day 3. Poqueria Villages. 10 km. 500 m ascend and 500 m descend.

Our walk begins in Capileira and after a steep descent we cross the river and follow a wonderful trail along the other side of the valley with beautiful views back to Capileira.A cool drink and an opportunity to visit the beautiful village of Pampineira which is famous for it’s colourful rug trade. Follow a trail through orchards and arrive back in Capileira. A wonderful walk!

Day 4. Soportújar Acequia Almiar. 14 km. 300 m ascend and 300 m descend.

This may be the most beautiful walk in the Alpujarras!. Climbing gently along a dirt road and reaching a pretty, sun dappled forest. Follow the routes of ancient water channels.

Day 5. Free day.

Day 6. Dos Acequias. 14 km. 340 m ascend and 340 m descend.

We follow the higher water channels built by the Romans and pass through beautiful countryside with spectacular views. Return in a valley following the lower acequias.

Day 7. Rio Culo Perro. 11 km. 500 m ascend and 500 m descend.

An exceptional walk climbing high into the Sierra with fine views over Trevélez, the highest village in Spain and famous for the soft and delicious jamon serrano.
